Weldon James Erickson, 87, of Sparta, WI, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Hospice Touch in Tomah, Wisconsin. He was born August 11, 1937, in Melvina, Wisconsin, to Ernest and Alice (Simonson) Erickson.
As a dedicated worker in the construction industry, Weldon was known for his “I won’t give up” attitude, a trait that saw him through numerous injuries. Despite broken bones, he would return to work as soon as he could, with an almost superhuman determination.
Weldon’s wisdom was matched by his generosity and handiness, qualities that made him a cherished figure in his family. A man of simple pleasures, Weldon found joy in the excitement of the casino, sharing many memorable outings with his children. He looked forward to every morning that he could go to Dorrine’s Family Restaurant to have breakfast and solve the world’s problems with his friends who were also there. Weldon’s love for his family was as deep as the waters he so enjoyed fishing in. Those gatherings, filled with laughter and stories, will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Weldon is survived by his four children, Nancy (Al) Rilloraza of Marion, Kansas, Marilyn Erickson of Sparta, WI, Ray (Amy) Erickson of Sparta, WI, and Jamie Zellmer of Tomah; brother, Eldrid (Linda) Erickson; sister, Barbara (Mahan); six grandchildren, Tara, Trent, Skyler, Ashley, Adam, and Jennifer; 15 great grandchildren, Grayson, Lyla, Lanie, Ruby, Ivy, Haley, Kelsey, Paige, Maliyah, Isaiah, Dax, Nya, Dena, Taylor, and Hayden; one great-great grandchild, Cedar; sister-in-law, Dorine Erickson; mother of his children, Rita Alexander of Kansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. His presence will be missed, but the impact of his life will be felt for generations to come.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Alice; granddaughter, Candace Watson; brothers and sisters, David, LeRoy (Carol), Donald (Janet), Shirley (Rocco) Omalza, Wanda (Ronnie) Diggins, Robert, Richard, Roger, Larry and Duane (Shirley).
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024, 12:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home, 1132 Angelo Road, Sparta. Chaplain Priscilla Hemmersbach will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Celebration of life will follow at the VFW in Sparta.
