Visit the 20th Annual Driftless Area Art Festival

Posted

A light mist clung to the valley floors the morning of my first visit to the Driftless Area Art Festival a few years ago. I always loved the scene of a valley floor filled with morning or evening mist. It's simultaneously eerie and beautiful, setting the perfect scene for the rest of the day. I had recently found a renewed interest in art and wanted to surround myself with it and like-minded folks. This was the first art festival I had attended, and it is the perfect choice for anyone looking to enjoy and purchase local art in southwest Wisconsin.

Viewing arts, especially in the context of an art festival like the one in the Driftless Area, is an immersive and enriching experience that captivates all the senses. Imagine walking among the myriad tents, each filled with the unique creations of local artists. The visual feast includes everything from intricate drawings and vibrant paintings to exquisite jewelry, detailed woodworking, and striking metalwork. Your eyes wander from one piece to another, each telling its own story or conveying an emotion that resonates within you. I walked through the children's art tent and remembered countless hours I spent with drawing pads and pencils. I imagine their pride to see their art on that wall.

As you move through the festival, the air is filled with the soft melodies of live music, enhancing the ambiance and providing a soundtrack to your art viewing. The smell and taste of food from the local food trucks add another dimension to the day, making the experience a feast for the senses.

In addition to the sensory pleasures, viewing art in such a setting fosters a sense of community and connection with others. Surrounded by like-minded individuals, conversations and shared appreciation for art forms and expressions enrich one's enjoyment and experience.

This immersive engagement not only allows you to appreciate the diversity and talent of local artists but also offers the chance to support them by purchasing their work. Each piece you take home is a memento of the experience, carrying with it the beauty and atmosphere of the festival and the valley that cradled it.

I urge you all to take a drive this weekend and enjoy our regions artists.
