Jim Riniker, a cherished father, grandfather, husband, and esteemed businessman, passed away on September 8, 2024, after a lengthy, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 83 years old.
Born in La Crosse, WI on August 16, 1941, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, adventure, and deep connections with those around him. Jim is survived by his wife, Trish, who was by his side for the last 20 years. As a father, he is survived by his three children whom he shares with Lois Riniker: Tom (Gloria), Wade (Lisa), and Angie, as well as grandchildren Ethan, Mac, Elise, Lauren, Wyatt, and Dylan. Jim’s family was his pride and joy, and his influence on their lives was profound and enduring. Jim is also survived by his sister, Mary (Dash), his first wife, Lois (Riniker), Trish’s children, Jill (Greg) and Greg (Collins), and her grandchildren Madison, Olivia, Sophie, and Naomi.
Jim’s career was a testament to his commitment and leadership. He worked for nearly 40 years at Northern Engraving, starting out as a chemist and ultimately retiring as its President. Jim also spent three years in England for the Company, leading the expansion of sales and operations in Europe. His contributions to the company were significant, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers alike.
Jim’s career also led him to Sparta, WI, where he and Lois would raise their family and develop many strong and lasting friendships. He cherished his memories of his Spring Street neighbors, the Ski Group, and many other friends that made Sparta “home” to the Riniker Family.
Outside of work, Jim had a passion for exploration and adventure. He loved traveling around the world, embracing new experiences and cultures with enthusiasm. He was an avid skier and climber, summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro at the age of 65 years. When he wasn’t globetrotting, Jim cherished his time at the family cabin, where he enjoyed outings with his deer hunting group. These moments of camaraderie and connection with friends and family were among his most treasured. One of his favorite roles was that of Grandpa to his six grandchildren. Visiting with them at family gatherings and watching their many sporting events gave him the ultimate joy.
Jim’s warmth, integrity, and zest for life left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was admired not only for his professional achievements but also for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his loved ones. Jim Riniker’s legacy of love, leadership, and adventure will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever inspire and guide those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
A mass will be held on September 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament in La Crosse, Wisconsin, with a visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM and a Rosary from 10:30-11:00 AM. Lunch at the church (12:00-1:00PM) and a Celebration of Life at the Bluffside Tavern (1:00-4:00PM) will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a Parkinson’s disease research foundation in his honor. We would like to thank his personal caregiver, Ashley Johnson, for all her support during the course of his battle with Parkinson’s as well as the staff at Boulder Ponds in Lake Elmo, MN.
