SPARTA - Mary Lou Schauf, 83, of Sparta, died Monday, October 14, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse. She was born on September 22, 1941 to Otto and Elizabeth (Schafer) Schauf. She grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School.

Mary worked as a lab technician for the Sparta Clinic. She was house keeper and companion for Father Robert Hagenbarth for over 50 years. She sang in the church choir at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church while growing up and at St. Leo the Great in West Salem. She also volunteered with PCCW.

Mary enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, and painting. She was a big Wisconsin sports fan and loved watching the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Bucks.

Mary is survived by her brothers, Bob (Bonnie), John (Susan), and Jim (Maureen); sisters, Margaret, and Rosanne (Ronald) Vian; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Connie Johnson and Cathy Neuman; and brothers, Richard Schauf and Chuck Schauf.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
