Brookwood boys can’t overcome slow start in loss to Alma Center Lincoln

A lethargic start proved costly for the Brookwood boys’ basketball team in a non-conference clash with Alma Center Lincoln.

The Hornets (7-15) built up a 21-6 lead in the first half and rode that to an eventual 57-44 victory over the Falcons Tuesday, February 15 in Ontario.

After trailing 29-13 at the break, Brookwood outscored Alma Center Lincoln 31-28 in the second half. But that early deficit proved too much for the Falcons to overcome as they were handed a fifth straight defeat.

Brookwood senior guards Austin Frye and Franklin Wildes finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead their team. Additionally for the Falcons, sophomore guard Brady Hansen and sophomore forward/guard Wyatt Maurhoff each scored 7 points and junior forward Evan Klinkner tacked on 5 points.

For the Hornets, freshman guard Jace Paul tallied a game-high 22 points and sophomore shooting guard/small forward Stephen Werre added 12 points in the win.

Brookwood (5-17 overall, 3-9 Scenic Bluffs) returns to conference action on the road against Hillsboro (12-9, 7-5) Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m. The Tigers previously won their first meeting 67-41 on January 14 in Ontario.

The Falcons will then face Coulee Christian/Providence (7-9) in a non-conference matchup Friday, February 18 at 6 p.m. in West Salem.
