TOMAH- Karen A. Soppa-Karle passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024, in Tomah, Wisconsin at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 75. She was born on July 7, 1948, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and later at age 6, adopted by her loving adoptive parents, Edward and Jeanette (Julson) Senty, Karen’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and resilience.
Growing up on a dairy farm in Waumandee, Karen attended a quaint little green schoolhouse for her elementary years. She later graduated from Arcadia High School in 1966. The following year, on July 8, 1967, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lloyd Soppa, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia. Their love blossomed through the years, even as life took them to Germany due to Lloyd’s drafting into the service, and later back to their roots in Arcadia, where they welcomed their beloved children, Travis and Melissa.
Though Karen and Lloyd eventually went their separate ways after 25 years of marriage, the roots of their love never faded, and they found their way back to each other’s arms, rekindling a bond that transcended time.
Karen’s passions were as vibrant as her spirit. She found solace and expression in crafting, gardening, sewing, and painting, creating beautiful works that reflected her inner grace. Her love for butterflies was more than a hobby—it was a symbol of her own transformation through life’s challenges, always emerging with courage and beauty.
Karen is survived by her children, Travis (Wendy) Soppa and Melissa (Shannon) Kampmeier; her treasured grandchildren, Alex, Chelsie, Maggie, Trystan (Olivia), and Ella; and her adored great-grandchildren, Ryela and Kyson. She also leaves behind her sisters, Gloria Fankhauser and Linda (Ron) Killian, and her goddaughter, Karie Adank Johnson, who, along with the rest of her family, will continue to honor her legacy of love and compassion.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Jeanette; her first husband, Lloyd; her brother-in-law, Fritz Fankhauser; her best friend, Bev and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As her journey on this earth concludes, Karen’s story does not end. It continues in the memories she leaves behind the lives she touched, and the love she shared. Her legacy will flutter on the wings of butterflies, and in the hearts of those who loved her.
