TOMAH- Gloria Jean Shutter (Betthauser) of Tomah, WI, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the age of 77.  Gloria married Gary Shutter on January 22, 1966, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.  She worked at Steele’s Rexall Drugstore, Tomah Area School District, and the Telephone Company in Tomah where she retired from in 1998. Gloria loved following her children and grandchildren in their various sports and musical activities.  She and Gary were always avid Tomah sports fans, and she loved watching the Badgers, Brewers, and the Packers.  Gloria has been an amazing person all her life, and truly - to know her was to love her.  She was a devoted daughter to Alan and Arlene (Waege) Betthauser of Tomah; a loving Wife to Gary Shutter of Tomah for 58 years; a wonderful Mother to Tracey Sullivan (Kevin) of Green Bay and Pat Shutter (Lisa) of Tomah; a caring Grandmother to Matt Hockenberry (friend Lynn), Taylor Sullivan (Hannah) and Nick Sullivan all of Green Bay, to Kayleigh Ingenthron (Jared) of Onalaska; Trenton Shutter of Chippewa Falls and Trevor Shutter (Chloe) of Sparta; and a very Special GiGi to Elsie and Cora Hockenberry, Denver and Vaugh Sullivan, Jack, Logan and Charlie Ingenthron and Elliot Shutter; and the best Sister anyone could ever have to Glen Betthauser (friend Mary Groothuis) of Reedsburg, Gerald “Boomer” Betthauser (Karen) of Tomah, Judi DeWitt of Tomah, Mike Betthauser (Kim) of Lyndon Station, Greg Betthauser (Carol) of Tomah, Cindy Abendschein (Brian) of Chippewa Falls, Wendy Wright (Todd) of Millston, John Shutter and Dorothy (Thompson) Shutter both of Tomah. She was dearly loved by her numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

When her family lost their Mom back in 2011 and the Betthauser siblings became orphans (so-to-speak) - it was Gloria they all looked up to.  Last year when Gloria’s health went so downhill - it was Glen who said, “what are we going to do without her, she’s the one that keeps us all together”.  And he was right - she’s been the rock, the glue of her family.  She was the FIRST to be called when anyone had good news to share and the FIRST to be called when it was sad or difficult news, and she was there to laugh or cry or just listen each time.  She led the way for the rest of her family by being the FIRST for many things.  Glen and Boomer are older than Gloria but she was the FIRST girl born to Arlene and Alan; she was the FIRST Granddaughter of John & Laura Betthauser; she was the FIRST to fall in love with Gary and then the rest of her family did; she was the FIRST in her family to get married; she was the FIRST to have children; she was the FIRST to have Grandchildren; she was the FIRST to have Great-Grandchildren - who call her GiGi.  And now she’s the FIRST to be reunited with other family members that have gone to heaven before her - her parents Alan and Arlene Betthauser, her Waege Grandparents and her Betthauser Grandparents, her brother-in-law Doug DeWitt, her nephews Bryan Betthauser and Eric Betthauser, her great-niece Hailey Betthauser, her nephew-in-law Pete Kowal, her in-laws Harold and Leila (Reekie) Shutter, her brother-in-law Howard Shutter, her sister-in-law Reggie (Treml) Shutter, her niece Lorrie Shutter and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.

So, to Gloria - have a safe Journey - we Love You, we’ll Miss You and we’ll see you again someday.  LOL (Lots of Love) Gloria J. Shutter, 77, of Tomah, died on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Serenity House in Tomah.
