Sparta- ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE HOMICIDE CHARGES FILED

On Sunday, October 6, 2024 at approximately 8:50am officers of the Sparta Police Department were dispatched to the lOO block of West Oak Street for a report of an injured female. Upon their arrival, officers located a victim with life-threatening injuries.

She was transported by GundersenAIR to a trauma hospital. After initial investigation, 39-year-old Andrew Nauman of Sparta was arrested for felony Bail Jumping. Nauman was on a Monroe County felony bond for a June, 2024 Sparta Police Department case. At that time Nauman was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Battery, and Strangulation/Suffocation of a different victim and received a signature bond in Monroe County Circuit Court.

After further investigation of the October 6 incident, the Sparta Police Department referred charges of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, Aggravated Battery, and Disorderly Conduct against Nauman. More charges may be forthcoming.

Nauman appeared in Monroe County Circuit Court on October 8, 2024. At that time, he was granted a $1,000 signature bond on his initial felony Bail Jumping charge. Nauman was also given a $1,000,000 cash bond for his other pending charges.

We will not be releasing the identity or location of the victim at this time.
