TOMAH- Arlene A. Christensen, age 91, of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away July 15, 2024, at Touch of Home in Tomah, WI.  She was born the daughter of William Jr. and Jennie (Wood) Waltemath on January 12, 1933, at home on the Waltemath farm in the town of Byron, Monroe County, WI.  She attended Valley View, Mayflower and Shennington grade schools, graduating from Tomah High School in 1950.

In January 1951, she worked for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company in Tomah and transferred to the Madison office in 1952.  In 1957, she met her husband, Harold Christensen.  They were married May 2, 1959, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Shennington, WI.  They lived all their married life and raised their son Bruce and daughter Susan in the township of Orange, Juneau County, WI.

Arlene worked for the Lemonweir Valley Telephone Company for 17 ½ years.  She was active in the community as a 4-H leader, served on the Juneau County Fair Board, a member of the Lone Rock Homemakers and Lone Rock Community Club.  She also served as Town of Orange treasurer for several years.  Recently she volunteered with Operation Homefront.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Susan Cornwell, brother, Alfred Waltemath and niece, Karen Waltemath.

She is survived by her husband, Harold, son, Bruce (Jeanne) Christensen, grandchildren, Brandon, Stacy and Kyle (Rachel) Cornwell, Brittney (Jim) Stromski, Benjamin and Kelly Christensen, great grandchildren, Marina Leifer, Ezekiel Cornwell and Hazel Cornwell, sister-in-law, Joyce Waltemath, brother-in-law, Leroy (Pat) Christensen, sisters-in-law, Marion Christensen and Jeanette Anderson, nephews, Ricky (Lisa), Randy (Alicia), Thomas (Laurie) and James (Kim) Waltemath, a niece, Cara (Joe) Potter, along with great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.   

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Burial will be held in the St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Shennington.  Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Online condolences are available at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
