The Budweiser Dairyland Super National Truck and Tractor Pull is marking a milestone this year.

The event will celebrate its 50th anniversary when it kicks off at 7 p.m. June 26 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds at 1625 Butts Avenue in Tomah. The three-day event will consist of five shows along two pull tracks, all packed with different classes of trucks and tractors ranging from Modified, Modified Mini, Light Pro Sock and Super Farm. Sessions will also be held at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 27 and June 28.

“Every session is going to be a little different mixture of the classes,” said Chris Schreier, president of the Monroe County Ag Society.

Schreier said the event attracts over 40,000-45,000 people to Tomah every year from spectators to competitors. Schierer said locals and people from all over the world, including Europe, come to Tomah for the event.

“We are one of the largest in the nation, well recognized well worldwide by pullers and fans,” he said. “We run more classes NTPA (National Tractor Pullers Association) classes (and) grand national classes than any other pull in the world.”

For the 50th anniversary, the Budweiser Clydesdales will make an appearance for the pre-show ceremony June 27 and throughout the week. The last time the iconic Clydesdales made an appearance was at the 1980 Tomah Tractor Pull. Schreier said there will be some different entertainment for the fans in the stands and the grounds than in previous years to celebrate the anniversary. He said another feature at this year’s show is honoring the pull’s past champions throughout the last 50 years. Food vendors and flea markets will also be present along the grounds so event goers can grab a bite to eat or shop.

Other events happening during the event include the Kidz Klub from 9 a.m. – Noon June 27, where Kids 14 and under get free admission. The event will feature a meet and greet with the pullers and lunch, with a limited amount of t-shirts available. Military Appreciation Night with a Motorcycle Parade will be 6 p.m. June 27 and Salute to the American Farmer will be 6 p.m. June 28.

The truck and tractor pull was the idea of Schreier’s father, David, who came up with the idea when he was a part of the Monroe County Fair Board 50 years ago, as a way to bring more people to the fair. The family traveled nationwide for other truck and tractor pulls and thought having one in Tomah would be a great way to bring people to the area.

“The first year they did it, it was such a hit, and it grew from there,” Schreier said.

Tickets are available online and at the gate, with the online rate at a slightly discounted price. Those ages seven and under are free. Schreier said the grounds are free to get onto, so anyone can walk around to visit vendors and buy food or even walk the pits to talk to the pullers before entering the gate.

“A lot of places you can’t do that,” Schreier said. “That’s one experience to just see what that equipment looks like and how professional these people are.”

For those who can’t make the event online, a livestream will be available online at https://fullpull.live/.
