Aubrey Davis and Jon Ortiz of Sparta were surprised that their daughter was the first baby born at Tomah Health in 2025. Adalee Anne Ortiz arrived at 11:14 p.m., on January 3rd, weighing 6 pounds 10 oz. and measured 18 ½ inches long.
“I was supposed to induce the next day, and she decided to come early, and she came very fast,” Aubrey said of the delivery of her daughter. “I didn't think that we would have the first baby of the New Year because we had talked about it and after the first, we were like, ‘Well, there's got to be other babies born,’” added Jon. “But when they told us that, we were very, very shocked and excited,” he said.
Aubrey said she was in labor for about an hour before Adalee arrived. “All the staff was very friendly, very patient, very kind and welcoming,” she said. “The staff was amazing, you know, making sure that we were OK at all times of the day, just real friendly. I would recommend it,” Jon said of the hospital stay.
Tomah Health Women’s Health Director Tammie Schroeder said 273 babies were born at the hospital last year compared to 224 babies in 2023. The 2024 figure included 151 boys and 122 girls. As for the most popular baby names at Tomah Health last year, Charlotte was tops for girls, while Hudson was the top boy’s name.
