On 3/11/2025 at 2pm, the Tomah Fire Department was dispatched to 1221 Stoughton Ave. for a report of a porch on fire.
While in route to the scene, dispatched advised Tomah fire that the porch was fully engulfed.
Tomah Police Department was first on scene and helped evacuate the area.
First arriving fire personnel reported heavy fire showing from the street side and was growing quickly with fire extension into the two-story structure.
Fort McCoy fire department responded to the scene with an engine and manpower.
Fire crews were able to make a quick knockdown on the main fire while protecting the nearby structures. Suppression efforts took several hours to complete the overhaul of the building.
All of the occupants were able to escape without injury. A dog was found alive and was transported to a local veterinary facility for assessment. A cat was also reported to be inside the home at the time of the fire and unfortunately succumbed to its injuries.
There were 25 firefighters on scene during this incident for nearly 2 1/2 hours.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
Assisting at the scene was the Tomah Area Ambulance Service, Fort McCoy Fire Department, Tomah Police Department, Monroe County 911 Communication Center, WE Energies, Alliance, Energy, and the City Of Tomah Public Works Department.

Update: all occupants made it out of the house safely. The Tomah fire Department just brought out a dog from the house at 3pm. The dog was alive, however it is unclear of whether it will pull through or not.
