Tomah’s quest for a third consecutive conference championship in girls golf got off to a strong start with a thoroughly dominant performance in the first MVC mini meet of the year.

The Timberwolves routed the rest of the field at a Mississippi Valley Conference mini meet last Thursday at the Coulee Golf Bowl in Onalaska, putting together a team score of 354 that was nearly 50 strokes better than their closest competition.

Behind Tomah in the team standings were the host Hilltoppers (402) in second, Holmen (409) in third, Sparta (457) in fourth and La Crosse Central/Logan (474) in fifth.

Senior Camryn Eirschele and junior Kaydence Hasselberger tied for first overall by each firing an 84. All five Tomah golfers finished inside the top eight, with senior Rylee Fritz (90) in a tie for third and seniors Cadence Scholze and Rachel Ewers (96) in a tie for eighth.

Sparta sophomore Laney Huntington carded a 95 to place seventh in the individual standings. Also contributing to the Spartans’ team score were senior Sam Schaitel (112), sophomore Ella Melby (120) and sophomore Kaylee Becker (130).

Joanie O Invite

Tomah fielded two teams that were better than the rest at this year’s Joanie O Invitational, held this past Wednesday at River Run Golf Course in Sparta.

The Timberwolves’ A team put together a total of 346 to come in first, with their B team in second at 374. They were followed by Stevens Point (390) in third, Holmen and Onalaska in a tie for fourth at 407, Wisconsin Dells (429) in sixth, Sparta (449) in seventh, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln (451) in eighth, Black River Falls (470) in ninth and Adams-Friendship (488) in 10th.

Eirschele posted the low score of the day with an 81, making her one of eight Tomah golfers to finish inside the top 10 along with Fritz and Ewers in a tie for second at 87, Hasselberger (88) in a tie for fourth, Cadence Scholze (90) in seventh, freshman Bristol Scholze (92) in eighth and both junior Piper Mathison and sophomore Evie Haldeman in a tie for 10th at 95.

The top scores for the Spartans on their home course included Huntington with a 96, Schaitel with a 107 and Melby with a 109.
