The tax man cometh

If it hasn’t already arrived in your mailbox, it will shortly.

2021 property tax bills have been mailed out by more than 30 municipal treasurers in Monroe County, and there are a few ways to pay it, depending on where you live.

City of Sparta and Tomah residents have the option to pay in full by Jan. 31 or pay in four installments, due Jan. 31, March 31, May 31 and July 31. Be careful though; if you go the installment route and miss a payment, you will be charged interest dating back to Feb. 1.

County residents outside of those cities can choose to pay in full by Jan. 31 or make two installments: one due Jan. 31 and the second July 31. The first installment should be paid to the local municipality’s treasurer, with the second installment going to Debbie Carney, the county treasurer.
