It's been 150 years in the making and the party being planned equals the significance of the event.

The Tomah Fire Department celebrates 150 years in existence in 2021. To acknowledge the milestone, the TFD is hosting a Sesquicentennial celebration on Saturday, Aug. 28.

"The Tomah Fire Department is proud to have provided same day service to the residents of Tomah and surrounding areas since 1871," said Tomah Public Safety director/Fire Chief Tim Adler. "I would like to pay tribute to all the 451 men and women who have served so faithfully and diligently on the fire department, both past and present. To the employers who have cooperated throughout the years by letting their employees have time off from work to fulfill their duties as firemen. To the families, without your support and understanding we could have never made this happen, the joy of serving the city of Tomah for the past 150 years."

The day will be filled with activities. It starts with a fire truck parade at 11 a.m. on Superior Avenue in Tomah. The parade route will head south in the northbound lane.

Following the parade, the public is invited to Tomah’s Recreation Park for fire truck equipment show starting at 1 p.m. Also on site, free bounce houses, junior firefighter combat challenge course, smoke house, caricatures and much more from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Minnesota Fire Engine Club will be providing a colored/illuminated water show throughout the evening.

Just when the community thought live music was done for the season with the culmination of the Downtown Thursday Night concert series on Aug. 12, the TFD celebration includes free live music will be available throughout the afternoon.

Starting the afternoon is Aaron Scott playing from 2 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Scott will be followed by Desperate Ottos playing from 4:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Headliner  Bon Journey, the original Bon Jovi/Journey tribute band, closes the day playing from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Tomah and surrounding communities are invited to the parade and then to Recreation Park to enjoy the free celebration.

The Tomah Fire Department thanks the many area businesses and organizations who have helped sponsor this event to make it free for the public. Additional information can be sourced by calling Tomah Fire Department at 608-374-7465.
