Steven Allan “Steve” Stalsberg, aged 55, of Sparta, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, in rural Sparta. Born on February 23, 1970, in Tomah, Wisconsin, to Warren and Caroline (Zebell) Stalsberg, Steve would grow up to be a man known for his humor, friendliness, and thoughtful nature.

Steve was a 1988 graduate of Sparta High School and a lifelong resident of Sparta, where he was a familiar and beloved figure in the community. Throughout his life, Steve worked various jobs, including cooking at Fort McCoy and working on the assembly line for factories in the area. However, he often said that his most cherished and fulfilling role was that of “PaPa” to his grandchildren. His pride in his grandchildren was evident to all who knew him, and he relished every moment spent with them.

Known for his ability to make people laugh, Steve was the classic goofy and happy-go-lucky man. His knack for storytelling kept his friends and family entertained. He had an unquenchable love for rock and roll music and was a passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Steve’s interests extended beyond music and sports; he was a deeply caring son who took excellent care of his mother, Caroline. Following the death of his brother, he moved in with her, providing comfort and support.

Steve is survived by his mom Caroline; children Jestin, Krystin (Nathan), Ashley Stalsberg; his children’s mother, Cassandra Beaston; grandchildren, Jonathan, Ethan, Kayleigh, and Paysen; siblings Geraldine Saul, Michael (Vi) Stalsberg, Peggy (Randy) Rodgers, Carol Vian, Debra Stalsberg, and Warren Jr (Terri) Stalsberg; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Warren; infant brother Jeffrey, two more brothers, David (in 2015) and Larry (in 2023); and a brother-in-law, Larry Saul.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  The Torkelson Funeral Home of Sparta, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
