SPARTA-Stephen “Steve” B. Knoll, 75, of Sparta died Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, La Crosse. He was born on January 23, 1949 to Elmer and Vera (Amborn) Knoll in Monroe County, WI. He grew up in the Big Creek area, and graduated from Sparta High School.

   After high school, Steve was drafted into the Vietnam War. He served 19 months, until he was called home due to a family accident.

   Steve was married to Patti Rowan on January 2, 1978 by Judge Rice, in Sparta. He worked at the Ft. McCoy, the Foundry, and spent most of his life farming in the Big Creek area.

   Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and looking for arrowheads. He loved spending time with his nephew, Nate Knoll; and niece Theresa and Tom Corwin.

   Steve is survived by his wife, Patti of Sparta; siblings, Rick (June) Rowan of Portland, Sharon Adams, David (Carrie) Rowan, Brian Rowan, Ronald (Linda) Knoll, all of Sparta, Nathan (Lynette) Knoll of Burns, and Tim Knoll of Appleton, Marilyn (Dick) Knoll-Johnson of MN, and Jean Lunstrom of MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

   He was preceded in death by his parents.

   A private memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
