Sparta, Tomah area to celebrate Independence Day

From fireworks to parades, several events will take place throughout the Sparta and Tomah area to celebrate America’s birthday.

Tomah will host its annual 4th of July parade at 10 a.m. on July 4 with the parade route going through downtown Tomah on Superior Avenue. Parade lineup starts at 8:30 a.m. at Tomah Middle School on Hollister Avenue, said Tina Thompson, president and CEO of Tomah Chamber and Visitor Center.

The route will start at Nott Street, travel south down the north-bound lane of Superior Avenue and end at Gillett Park on Holton Street.

Thompson said around 35 floats have registered for this year’s parade. However, she’s expecting that number to climb to 50 floats, the amount the event usually has every year, as the date of the parade approaches.

Thompson encourages people to bring their sunscreen, a lawn chair and water to enjoy the parade.

“It’s a kick-off to the holiday,” she said. “It’s just a great tradition of family friendly, faith and celebratory events for our area.”

Tomah will host its fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., at Recreation Park Fairgrounds, 1625 Butts Ave, Tomah.

“It’s an opportunity to see a spectacular event,” Thompson said of the fireworks.
