Sparta Show Choir receive first ever Shining a Spotlight show choir scholarship

Posted

Monday evening three talented Sparta Show Choir students were recipients of the first ever Shining a Spotlight show choir scholarship. Miss Sparta, Jenna Martin, established this full tuition scholarship as part of her community service initiative, shining a Spotlight on Music Education, which supports removing financial barriers for student participation in music activities. “As someone who grew up loving the stage, I know first-hand how music performance can empower young people,” said Martin. Tuition costs for one year of show choir can be as high as $650, depending on which group you participate in. “I have seen first-hand how hard parents work to support their students in show choir. By funding tuition cost associated with the activity, I hope to alleviate some of the financial stress that is placed on Sparta’s music families.”

Applicants applied through an online form where they were given the opportunity to describe what show choir means to them and how the scholarship will benefit their upcoming season.

Throughout her years in the Miss Sparta organization, Martin has raised over $6000 which will allow the Shining a Spotlight scholarship program to continue for an additional two years.
