SPARTA - Ruth A. Benzing, 61, of Sparta, died Sunday, December 19, 2021 at her home. She was born on January 18, 1960 in Chippewa Falls, WI to William and Donna (Wagner) Wellner. She grew up in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School.
Ruth married Anthony “Tony” Benzing on October 20, 2001 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta. She worked at Monroe County Telephone in Sparta and retired from the Tomah VA. Ruth liked people and made friends wherever she went.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Tony; stepson, Brett Benzing; extended family, Sharon Teske, Cathy and Ray Malzacher, and Thomas Malzacher; and special friend, Chelsey Willms.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert “Bobby” Wellner.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until 11a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
