SPARTA-Richard Bernard Wright of Sparta passed away on November 4, 2024 at his home in Sparta, Wisconsin. He was born on November 21, 1936 to Edna Beck and Ben Bostad in Horicon, Wisconsin.
Richard was married to his first wife, Rita Mae Luedtke, on September 22, 1956. From this marriage they had 6 children.
Richard then married Peggy (Foss) Woodworth on April 4, 2009 in Sparta, Wisconsin. Peggy brought to this marriage two children, Kevin (Jane) Foss and Kory Foss both of Sparta, Wisconsin.
Richard was in the service, stationed at Fort McCoy where he met his first wife in Sparta, Wisconsin. Richard was a man of many talents/trades but eventually ending up as a Master Plumber, which he was very proud of. He started his own septic service business. He ran this business for more than 40 years in the Sparta area. Eventually working side by side with his son, Richard L. Wright. He was a charter member of the Eagles Aerie 2833 since 1978. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and watching sports. He liked to putz in his big garage. Those who knew him knew him best for his card playing, jokes, and his laugh. He had a smile that would light up any room.
Richard is survived by his wife, Peggy Wright; his sister, Rosemary Wright Everett of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; his daughters, Robie (Robin) Clark of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Roxanne (Mark) Metcalf of Sparta, Wisconsin, Rhonda Wright (Myra Fernandez) of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Rebecca Wright of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Shelly (Chuck) Mawby of Osseo, Wisconsin; step-sons, Kevin (Jane) Foss and Kory Foss both of Sparta, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Victoria Wright of Tomah, Wisconsin; several sisters and brothers-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Mae Luedtke. His parents. His son, Richard L. Wright. His sister, Diane Lehr. His brother, Elmer Wright. Several sisters and brothers in law.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2024 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta. A Luncheon will follow the service at Sparta Eagles Club, starting at noon. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cashton, on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2 p.m.
A Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
