Michael L. Baker, age 71, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 6, 2026. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago, Michael faced every challenge with unwavering strength, grace, and his trademark smile. He never complained, always choosing to embrace the people and moments he cherished most.
Born on April 4, 1955, to Lester and Bessie (Anderson) Baker, Michael found his lifelong partner in Yvonne “Bonnie” (Kraemer) Baker. On June 26, they marked 50 years of marriage—a remarkable testament to their enduring love. Together, they were blessed with three children: Brian, Lisa, and Michelle.
Active in 4-H and the R-B Riders club, Michael cultivated a lifelong passion for horses and the outdoors. He devoted 45 years to his career as a professional truck driver, first with Kirkpatricks and later with USF Holland, before retiring.
He found joy in camping, horseback riding, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family. Michael was the rock of his family—the steady presence and glue that held everyone together. Remembered for his gift of storytelling, adventurous spirit, and selfless nature, he always put others before himself—offering a helping hand, wise advice, or simply a listening ear and a warm smile.
Nothing brought Michael greater happiness than being “Papa.” He doted on his grandchildren, treasuring every moment and memory shared. Always going above and beyond, Michael took his grandchildren on adventures near and far—celebrating milestones from preschool to high school, and cheering with boundless pride from the sidelines. “Papa” was always the proudest face in the crowd.
Michael will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Bonnie; his children, Brian Baker, Lisa (Aaron) Lounsbrough, and Michelle (Jacob) Wiering; his cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Caleb, Cooper, Alyssa, Dylan, Kiera, Maggie, and Winnie; his loving mother, Bessie; and his sisters, Diane, Darlene, and Marilyn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Baker, and his grandparents, Hazel and Everett Baker.
In keeping with Michael’s generous spirit, memorials may be made in his memory to the “Friends of Wildcat”, a non-profit equestrian group that supports improvements to the Horse Campground and equestrian trails at Wildcat Mountain State Park, or the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org
A Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held on August 1, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the McMullen County Park Pavilion, a place that brought him immense happiness. Family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories—honoring a man whose love, kindness, and generosity touched countless lives. A memorial ride and donation ceremony will take place at Wildcat Mountain State Park, Horse Camp, at a later date.
