Cashton - Mary Ann Margaret Leis (Brueggen), 91, of Cashton, WI passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI. She was born February 3, 1934 to Henry and Margaret (Butzler) Brueggen. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Leslie Leis. They spent their lifetime farming together.
Mary Ann graduated from Cashton High School May 29, 1954, and worked on the family farm for decades. She was an excellent cook and baker. Mary Ann expanded her baking skills to create beautiful wedding cakes for people for many years. Upon moving to town in 1993, she worked in the bakery department at the Badger Store.
Mary Ann was active with the Sacred Heart choir which gave her so much joy with her love of music. She was an avid sewer, making many quilts, giving many of them as gifts for weddings and to her children when they had kids of their own. She loved to crochet and made numerous afghans and doilies which she also shared with friends and family.
Mary Ann spent much of her time gardening and just enjoying spending time playing cards and putting puzzles together with Leslie.
Mary Ann is survived by her children and their spouses: Jeffrey (Karen) Leis, Jerome (Lori Brueggen) Leis, Jean (Jeff) McCoy, and Robert (Norma Schreier) Leis all of Cashton; grandchildren, Jackie (Jared) Pederson, Jason Leis, Emily (Leis) Ronke, Jessica (Leis) Mlsna, Michael Schreier, Esden Schreier, Danielle (Leis) Reget and Ethan Leis; great grandchildren, Payten and Braden Pedersen, Riley, Lincoln and Frankie Leis, Rylan, Zoe, Porter, and Mila Mlsna, Ty, Harper, Brody and Oaklie Schreier; along with many other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret; siblings: Alvera Hendersen, Norman Brueggen, Ervin Brueggen and Betty Jane Donskey along with their spouses. Her husband Leslie Leis passed away May 9, 2020; she was also preceded by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Leis (Schmitz) and son-in-law, Todd Schreier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on St. Mary’s Ridge, rural Norwalk. Father Matthew Bowe will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pine Hollow Cemetery, Cashton.
