Laurie Ann (Jensen) Engel, age 59, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer at Tomah Health. She was born on June 24, 1965 to Robert C. and Wilda Mae (Betthauser) Jensen.
Laurie dedicated many years of her life as an orthodontist assistant at Gundersen Clinic in Tomah, where her gentle touch and warm smile made dental visits a comfort for patients. Beyond her professional role, Laurie was known for her artistic spirit. As a designer and painter, her works were a testament to her love for beauty and her ability to capture the essence of life’s moments on canvas. Her artwork brought joy and inspiration to all who had the pleasure of experiencing it. Her greatest joy in life was being a grandma to Raya, and she was so excited to be welcoming another grandchild this coming summer. Laurie was happiest when she was outdoors in the sunshine with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Olivia (Zayne) Wicks of Sioux City, IA; her cherished granddaughter, Raya ; sisters, Linda (Ron) Wood-Riesterer of Eau Claire, WI, and Sandra Bass of Cherokee, IA; special nieces and nephews, D.J. (Betty) Wood of Rice Lake, WI, Robert (Sonya) Wood of San Antonio, TX, Julie Wood of Trenton, TN, Ryan Wood of Chippewa Falls, WI, Heather Quint of Loveland, CO, and Frank (Carol) Quint of Clarion, IA; along with many other close cousins, relatives, and friends.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Wilda Mae Jensen; grandparents, John and Laura Betthauser; along with other aunts and uncles.
Memorial Services for Laurie will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Tomah. Pastor Claudia Deede will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
