June Dorothy Winkelman, 79 of Tomah, passed away peacefully on September 29 at Mayo Hospital.
June was born on June 1, 1947, in Burlington, Wisconsin, to Ellsworth and Dorothy (Baumeister) Koehnke.
On October 4, 1969, June married the love of her life, Ronald Winkelman, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington. Together, they called Burlington home until Ron’s career as a truck driver brought them to Tomah in the late 1980s.
June was a devoted stay-at-home mother while her children were young. Once her children were in school, she became a nanny. She then began working as a salesperson at Sorenson’s Lumber, where she spent many years. She later worked at Granger’s until her retirement.
Family was at the heart of June’s life. She loved her family deeply and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. In recent years, some of her happiest moments were spent sitting on the deck with family, sharing stories about their days and reminiscing about the past.
June enjoyed crocheting and sewing throughout the years. She loved playing board games, with Yahtzee among her favorites, and also enjoyed playing games on her tablet. A devoted Packers fan, she never wanted to miss an opportunity to watch them play.
June is survived by her sons, Kevin (Shelly) Dixon and Mark (Nikki) Dixon; daughters, Kristina (Dave) Martin and Tricia Winkelman; brother, Richard (Diane) Koehnke; sisters-in-law, Deborah Koehnke, Wendy Koehnke, and Betty Zimmerman; brothers-in-law, Duane (Karleen) Winkelman and Keith (Lori) Winkelman; along with nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellsworth and Dorothy Koehnke; her parents-in-law, Lyle and Evelyn Winkelman; her husband, Ronald Winkelman; her son, Dale Dixon; her grandson, Mason Maresh; her siblings, Ellsworth “Bud” Koehnke and Mary Kay Koehnke, Kenneth and Maryann Koehnke, Donald “Spark” Koehnke and Robert Koehnke; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Winkelman and Jim Zimmerman.
June will be remembered for her love of family, her generous heart, and the many memories she created with those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
