SPARTA - Joanne Matson, 59, of Sparta, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Gundersen Health Systems, La Crosse, due to complications from surgery. She was born on September 18, 1964 to Roger and Elaine Matson in Patchogue, Long Island, NY. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1983.
Joanne was employed at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in Sparta for 25 years as a dietary aid.
Joanne was the epitome of kindness, and always had a smile on her face. She would be the first to step up to help, whenever she could. Strangers were friends she hadn’t met yet. Jo was an avid Packer fan, and loved spending time with her sister, sister-in-law, and nephews. She also enjoyed reading and going out to eat. Especially if she could go to Cracker Barrel.
Joanne is survived by her sister, Dawn Bindrim and her husband, Don; sister-in-law, Brenda Matson; nephews, Connor and Jordan Matson; and her furbaby, Penny. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roger; and both sets of grandparents.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Reverend Jim Radatz officiating.
A visitation was held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Joanne’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Gundersen for their care and compassion.
