Joann E. Johnson, age 75, went to her eternal home on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Serenity House in Tomah. She was born on June 3, 1950, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to William and Victoria (McDaniel) Zellmer. Joann was united in marriage to Robert E. Johnson in 1979, and together they shared many loving years until his passing in 2018.
Joann spent the majority of her career working for Dayton’s Department Store, where through hard work and dedication she advanced to the position of buyer and seller. Later in life, she worked at Walmart in both the cash office and deli. She also lovingly served her church community by helping as an aid for the children on the church van.
Following her husband’s passing, Joann devoted her time to volunteering at Serenity House in Tomah, where she shared compassion, kindness, and encouragement with many.
Joann was a faithful member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Tomah. She had an infectious laugh, loved to converse, and genuinely enjoyed getting to know people. Her warm personality and caring spirit made others feel welcomed and valued wherever she went. Her faith was the foundation of her life.
Joann is survived by her siblings, Paul (Bonnie) Zellmer, Ernest (Karen) Zellmer, and Rose Arndt; sister-in-law, Judy Zellmer; stepchildren, William Johnson and Barbara Freeman. She is further survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, special nieces and nephews, and beloved niece, Kymn Rimes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, William and Victoria; and her siblings, Thomas, Richard, Gene and John Zellmer.
A Celebration of Joann’s Life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Tomah. Pastor D.C. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
