Halloween event dates and times in Monroe County

Posted

Halloween 2024 will be quite a treat for Monroe County. Many events have been scheduled, alongside the standard Halloween trick-or-treating hours, to ensure children get a load of treats and adults a hull of fun this holiday season.

Trick-or-Treat Hours

Trick-or-treating in Monroe County will kick off at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st, 2024. While the majority of communities will end at 7 p.m., Norwalk and Wilton will end slightly earlier. Here is a list of area trick-or-treating hours.

Tomah: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Porch Light On/Off Indicator

Remember, as the general rule, porch lights need to be on if homes plan to participate in trick-or-treating. If the porch light is off, trick-or-treaters will and should assume the home is not participating, they should and pass by respectfully.

Trunk-or-Treats

Like last year, the Trunk-or-Treat sensation is all the vibration again in Halloween 2024. At a Trunk-or-Treat, community members create a Halloween themed scene in the back of their car. With the cars all lined up, children can walk safely, never out of parental or guardian sight, and enjoy the spooky ambience created by the holiday décor and costumes, maximizing their trick-or-treat experience and candy haul. Trunk-or-Treats are great for those who are unable to walk as long or as far because the event is compact.

Following are a list of Trunk-or-Treats in the area:

Thursday, October 31st, 2024: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Faith Evangelical Free Church (6644 Hwy 16 Sparta)

                                                     5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church (4285 US Hwy 12 Warrens)

Friday, November 1st, 2024: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Tomah’s VA Medical Center, dark blue parking, located at 500 East Veterans Street.

Additionally, area food truck, the Loaded Bun, will be at Tomah’s VA event, for those wanting to grab a juicy burger before the desserts. If the trunks are not scary enough, this may be the last event of the year for the Loaded Bun, so make sure to get your buns down there.

Community Halloween parties

Tomah and Warrens both have trick-or-treating after parties set for Thursday, October 31st, 2024. Tomah’s annual community Halloween party will be held at Recreation Park, aka the Monroe County Fairgrounds, located at 1625 Butts Avenue, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free, thanks to generous sponsors throughout the community. Games, costumes judging, and prizes will begin at 5:15 p.m. for those who want to join in the Tomah Halloween tradition.

Warrens has set a Halloween Bash for a little later in the evening, on Halloween 2024. The event will begin after trick-or-treating, at 7 p.m. and end around 9 p.m., at the Log Building, which sits at 601 Pine Street. There will be music, dancing, and a costume contest. Parents are encouraged to dress up. There will be snacks and drinks available, but additional snacks are welcome.

Extra Eerie Events

In addition to traditional community fun, miscellaneous Halloween events are splattered throughout the county. Sparta Boys and Girls Club House of Shadows, located at 501 Osborne Drive in Sparta, is the ultimate haunted house experience for those who are looking for a light-hearted scare (not-so scary) or a fast-paced panic (very scary). Tickets are $6 for not-so scary, $15 for very scary, and $30 for a spook pass, to jump ahead in line. Due to fast ticket sales, the club encourages everyone to get a ticket ahead of time online. The house will remain open on Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 5:30 p.m. until November 2nd, 2024. The final evening will be a “glow” event, if you are brave enough to see more of the house.

For those who enjoy a spooky gamble, Tomah Community Theatre is hosting Dr. B’s Halloween BINGO event. The event will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at the theatre, which has an address of 907 Kilbourn Avenue. Bingo cards are $20 or 3 for $50. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and costume contest. The event is sponsored by community members and local businesses.

For curious minds, Tomah VA Medical Center will be hosting their annual pumpkin drop on Halloween day. The event will be just outside building 406 and begin at 1:30 p.m. sharp. The event is free to the public and brought to the community by the roads and grounds crew.

No matter what your taste is in treats or event needs this year, Monroe County is sure to be delightful and frightful the next two weekends.
