George “Butch” Ring Boyington 82, of rural Ontario, WI, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, at Emplify Health System, formerly known as Gundersen Health, in La Crosse, WI.
George was born on November 15, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to George Ring Sr. and Lora Gretchen (Hatfield) Boyington. He grew up in Muskego, WI. As a young man, George moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he met his friend Steve and they found themselves living across the hall from two young women, Lucinda Farmer and her friend Elaine. The four quickly became friends, sharing Friday night dinners and many memories. Those friendships grew into lasting love, and in time, Cindy and George, and Elaine and Steve, each married. George and Lucinda “Cindy” were united in marriage on September 30, 1972.
George worked as an over-the-road truck driver for many many years. In 1989 he moved to Sparta, WI and started driving milk truck for Dan Olson Trucking and settled in Cashton, WI in 1993 until he retired from driving truck in 2006. Once he retired from driving semi, he began driving Amish neighbors to appointments. George was also a dedicated member of the Viroqua Eagles Club #2707 since July 1995.
He fondly remembered childhood summers spent with aunts and uncles in the Kickapoo area. He loved hunting and fishing and felt most at home outdoors. Family remained central to his life, and he faithfully attended the Hatfield Family Reunion each September in La Farge.
