The family of a Sparta woman who was killed last year is planning a tribute Friday, Oct. 17, to honor her memory and raise awareness of domestic violence.

Yolanda Manning-Joyce, the mother of Ticarra Manning, said she will gather at 2:45 p.m. at Memorial Park recreation area in Sparta, near a bench overlooking the lake, to release white balloons in her daughter’s memory.

Those attending the tribute, or passing by the area, will be given pink ribbons bearing Manning’s name and the date of her death. Manning-Joyce said the gesture is meant to honor her daughter and bring attention to domestic violence prevention. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

She also invited those unable to attend in person to take a moment that day to remember Manning.

According to Monroe County Herald archives and online court records, Andrew Nauman was arrested in connection with Manning’s death and charged with first-degree intentional homicide. He remains in jail and has entered a not guilty plea to the charges on Sept. 29, according to online court records.
