Sparta - Edna Rieck, 78, of Sparta, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Tomah Nursing and Rehab in Tomah, WI.
Edna never let any challenges that she may have had define her or dampen her spirit. She was an individual who found joy and excitement, alongside her best friend Cindy Aney, in the simple pleasures of life, making the most out of every day. Her enthusiasm for shopping trips was well-known among her friends and family. She took delight in exploring the aisles of Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar, always on the lookout for the best trinkets, stuffed animals, and treats for the people she lived with.
Edna’s presence was a gift to the nursing home community, where she participated in various activities, bringing laughter and joy to both residents and staff. Her visits with Cindy, a dear member of her honorary family, were moments she treasured deeply. She was a friend to all and an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. She taught those around her the power of perseverance, the importance of friendship, and the joy of living each day with a positive outlook.
Edna is survived by her honorary family, Cindy and Steve Aney; and their daughter, Tammy (Eric) Stickney; and her children Tyren, and Ashton; sister, Janet Reick; along with the many friends she has made along the way.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Anita Rieck.
A Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Sparta. Pastor Bob Streeter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Cindy would like to thank the Tomah Nursing and Rehab Care Center’s entire nursing home staff for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion you showed Edna. She was truly happy to live there, and that joy came from the way you treated her—with dignity, gentleness, and genuine affection.
