Edna Doreen Georgeson, age 97, of rural Camp Douglas, went home to meet her Savior and to join her husband, Elmer, in their eternal home on June 13, 2026.
She was born February 2, 1929, to Herman and Georgia (Litzenberg) Frei at their home in the Town of Byron, Monroe County, WI. Edna began her education at the one-room Stowell School on her parents’ farm and was graduated from Tomah High School in 1946. She attended Northwestern Bible College for one year and then returned home to marry the love of her life, Elmer R. Georgeson, on October 12, 1947.
Elmer and Edna farmed in the Camp Douglas area for several years before moving to Eagle Point, Oregon, where Elmer worked in the logging industry. Although they returned home to partner with Edna’s father in an all-hydraulic, portable sawmill, a business that they operated until retirement, Edna left part of her heart in Oregon. She counted it a blessing to be able to visit Oregon nearly every year after retirement. Family and friends were a huge part of Edna’s life, and traveling to visit folks was a lifelong passion. From riding a motorcycle to Oklahoma City, in 1969, to driving the Alcan Highway to Alaska, Edna loved visiting new places in God’s creation.
Edna was very instrumental in starting “Good News Clubs” in the Camp Douglas area, beginning in the 1950s. She was a faithful teacher, sharing the Good News that “God so loved the world” and “whosoever believeth” in Jesus would have everlasting life. Those “Good News Clubs” continue even to this day.
Edna was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and even writing some hymns.
She is survived by her children, Imogene Brasic (the late Bob Gutsche) of Tomah, Kenneth (Sherry) Georgeson of Camp Douglas, Susan (the late Gary Ludeking) of Tomah; grandchildren, the late Mathew (Gerlyn) Brasic of Bangor, James (Erica) Brasic of Kansas, Ohio, Mark Gutsche, and Robert “Ted” Gutsche, Jr. (Carolina) of Florida, Luke (Stephany) Georgeson of Mauston, Cassie (Vern) Stayton of Camp Douglas, Thad (Cody) Ludeking, and Amanda (Tony) Newcomb of Tomah; great grandchildren, Danika (significant other Peter Nickoli) and Elizabeth Brasic, Sydney (significant other Hunter Fields), Benjamin, Nathaniel, and Natalie Brasic, Martín and Matías Gutsche, Joshua, Haddie, and Steve Georgeson, Isaiah and Adeliya Stayton, Thane Ludeking and Zoey (Ryan) Kirkpatrick, Bryce, Ryonna (significant other Riley Jarstad), Tyne, and Ryn Newcomb; great-great granddaughter Oaklyn Newcomb; sister, Joanne (Frei) Jones; and many other friends and loving relatives.
