Dennis K. Steinhoff was born on July 17, 1961 in Sparta to Bernard and Catherine (Steidel) Steinhoff. Dennis grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School.
Dennis retired from the Army as a MSG in 2006 with 23 years of service, then later retired as a civilian from Fort McCoy. He enjoyed playing cards and camping with family. Dennis also spent countless hours fishing with his children and brother. More than anything, “Papa” enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Bennett.
Dennis passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 at UW Madison hospital at the age of 60. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Catherine; sisters, Carol “CJ” Loe and Pat Steinhoff; brothers, Daniel and Thomas and sister-in-laws, Lynn and MaryAnn.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Norma (Neumann) Steinhoff; children, Kylie Steinhoff (Matt ), and Shane (Emily) Steinhoff; grandson, Bennett; siblings, Nancy (Gene) Kaijala, Donna (Jerry) Erickson, Bob Steinhoff, John (Vicki) Steinhoff, Mike Steinhoff, Linda Steinhoff, Jerry Steinhoff, Jeff (Jeanne) Steinhoff, Barb (Leo) Ward, Pete (Diane) Steinhoff, and John (Char) Roehrl; and a sister-in-law, Laurie Steinhoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sparta.
Visitation for Dennis will be from 4-7 pm. on Monday, April 18th at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
