David E. Meyer, 82 of Stratford, WI, and formerly of Sparta, WI, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI. He was born April 19, 1943, in Sparta, WI to Wilmer and Charlotte (Mullet) Meyer.
David helped on his family farm in his younger years and then worked at 7up Bottling Company in Tomah. David also served in the U.S. Navy.
David was a “jokester,” he loved to joke with people and loved it even more if people would give it right back. He always wanted to make people smile. David always said, “if I can make you smile, then my day was not wasted.” He loved everyone and would always do what he could to help you out in any way if he was able to. David will be extremely missed, but he left us all with some pretty amazing memories.
David is survived by his step-daughter, Elizabeth (Scott) Ertl of Marshfield; step-granddaughters, Hollie (Austin) Jensen of Marshfield and Amy Krumenauer of Eau Claire; two step-great grandchildren, Harper and Waylon Jensen; brother, Denny Filter; sister-in-law, Dorothy Berg, brother-in-law, Harold Walker; a special cousin Pam K. Shawley; along with his special cat Blondie; and many nieces, and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents Wilmer and Charlotte; the love of his life, Darlene Brueggeman, who passed away in February; two sisters and their husband, Joanne and Kenny Dopson, and Hilda and Roger Severson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Orbin Berg and Allen and Joyce Witt; along with a special cousin Wiener Shawley.
Graveside Services with full military honors will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2025, 12:00 noon in the Cataract Cemetery, Cataract, WI.
