Claude E. Nevin, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Morrow Home Community Bridgepath in Sparta, WI.
Born on June 29, 1941, in Ontario, WI to John and Irma (Laufenberg) Nevin. Claude met the love of his life and soulmate, Linda Von Ruden, where so many great stories once began — on the dance floor at “Danceland” in rural Cashton. They were married on September 1, 1962, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and remained inseparable for the next 63 years. Together they built a life filled with an unwavering love — a partnership that served as an example to all who knew them. He dedicated 42 years at Northern Engraving in Sparta, building not only a career he was proud of but also lifelong friendships.
Claude was a man who believed every day was an opportunity to work hard. Though he came from humble beginnings, he built a successful life through determination and optimism. He was never one to dwell on problems; instead, he searched for solutions, ideas, and possibilities. Long before the phrase “growth mindset” existed, he lived it every day. Professionally and personally, he approached life with quiet confidence and the belief that “a shot not taken is a shot missed.” His positive outlook and “glass half full” mindset became one of the many gifts he passed on to his family. Above all else, Claude was a proud cheerleader for his family— encouraging them, believing in them, and reminding them to enjoy the ride—and make every mile count.
He had a deep love and appreciation for antique cars and his favorite color was chrome. He often joked that life was simply more fun in a good-looking and clean car, believing, as Elvis once said, that “life is too short to drive boring cars.” The vintage cars Claude loved reflected much of who he was himself — timeless, dependable, full of charm, and built to last. Though strong and resilient, he carried a gentle spirit, showing his love through laughter, loyalty, and countless well-timed jokes.
Claude was also known for his quick wit and joyful spirit. Whether telling stories, teasing those he loved, or making people laugh in the middle of an ordinary day, he truly was the life of the party. He believed that whatever you were doing, you might as well have fun doing it.
His faith in God remained a guiding light throughout his life. He trusted deeply in the promise of eternal life and found strength in knowing that this world is not our final destination on life’s winding road. His family takes comfort in knowing there was a joyful reunion in Heaven between him and Linda — likely sharing laughter, dancing, and a ride through the valley.
He is survived by his loving children, Mark (Cheryl) Nevin, Eric Nevin, and Lori (Dan) Meyer; his grandchildren, Erica, Nikki, Erin, Josh, Miranda, John, Collin, Bryant, and Karlie; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gene “Doc” Nevin; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Sharon Nevin, Gene (Jackie), Dan (Connie), Tom (Sally), Al (Roxie) VonRuden, and Judy Mashak; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife Linda; his parents, Irma and John Nevin; mother and father in-law, Raymond and Lila Von Ruden; 1 brother, Leo Nevin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry Von Ruden, Jack and Sandy Von Ruden.
