SPARTA- Carole Jean Jerome, 84, of Sparta, Wisconsin, passed away on August 25, 2025. She was born in La Crosse, WI, to Edward and Jeanette (Welda) Barta and graduated from Aquinas High School.
On October 24, 1959, she married Lyle “Buzz” Jerome and together they shared over 50 joyful years filled with travel, dancing, bowling, laughter, and love. Carole lived in La Crosse, Waukesha, Angelo, and Sparta. She loved traveling and could happily say she visited all 50 states (48 by motorhome) and several countries. She worked as a telephone operator, tax preparer, and bookkeeper for various businesses and was active in the Sparta Lioness and Lions Clubs. Her strong work ethic and kind heart touched many.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz; her parents; and her brother, Mike Barta. She is survived by siblings, Sharon Dickenson, Edward “Butch” Barta, and Rick Barta; children, Patty (Greg) Herold, Debbie Lamb, Tim (Beth) Jerome, and Pam (Bob) Edelman; former son-in-law, Dale Lamb and former daughter-in-law, Reenie Riley; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30th at 11 AM at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta. Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home starting at 9 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carole.
