SPARTA - Carole Jean Griffin, 86, of Sparta, died Friday, July 8, 2022 at Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls. She was born December 16, 1935 to William and Alpha (Olson) Chalmers in Winona, Minnesota.
She moved to Beloit, Wisconsin when she was 5, and graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1955. After graduation, Carole worked as a nanny and a housekeeper, and then as a house keeper at Beloit College and later at Beloit Hospital.
Carole met Joseph (Joe) Griffin on February 2, 1961 on a blind date and married him on May 12, 1962. After they were married, they lived in Beloit until 1967 when they moved to their farm in Little Falls, Wisconsin. They had 3 daughters, in 1963, ’64, and ’68, and raised them on the farm until 1978 when they moved to Sparta.
She enjoyed crafting, knitting, crochet, sewing, cooking and baking the best pies imaginable. She was an avid reader. When she wasn’t reading, she enjoyed Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
Carole is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Jo Griffin, Pamela Joy (Greg) Peterson, and Paula Jean (Tim) Erickson; grandchildren, Alexandra, Connor, Samantha Erickson, and JoAnne Peterson; great-grandsons, Hayden and Nate Denton; goddaughter, Dana Weeden; sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alpha Chalmers; husband, Joe Griffin; sister, Georgia Leech; numerous brothers-in-law; and 3 nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Cataract Cemetery, Sparta.
