WEST SALEM/SPARTA - Betsy J. Baumer, 84, of West Salem, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse surrounded by family and friends. She was born on February 28, 1939 in La Crosse, WI to William and Laura (Ewert) Loging. She grew up in Barre Mills and graduated from West Salem High School.
Betsy married Julius Baumer. They lived in Iowa before moving back to the Sparta area in 1976. They later divorced.
Betsy worked at Oscar Mayer in Iowa, La Crosse Footwear, owned and operated two bars, and did in-home healthcare where she loved taking care of her ladies. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, listening to country music, reading, watching game shows, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betsy is survived by her children, Ronald (Nancy) Baumer of Aiken, SC, Diane Huber of Sparta, and Russell Baumer of Kendall, WI; grandchildren, Jessica (Stephen) Dobbs, Josh (fiancé, Jennifer) Baumer, Kevin (Erin) Huber, Daniel (Heidi) Huber, Christopher Baumer, and Julie Martin; great grandchildren, Kolby, Avery, Grayson, Elsie, Lexie, Haley, Adam, Mariah, Gabe, Alex, and Maddie; sister, Mildred Britt of CA; special friend, Priscilla Hemmersbach; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Sharon; son-in-law Allen Huber; brothers
Donald, Wilford, Leonard, William “Bill”; sisters, Helen Rodenberg, Virginia Toedter, Leadria Loging, Ethel Achterkirch, and Elaine Purdy; and her loving dogs Petey and Ginger.
