BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bangor girls beat Melrose-Mindoro, New Lisbon

ONALASKA 78, TOMAH 33

Onalaska (13-3 overall, 7-0 Mississippi Valley) cruised past the Timberwolves (6-12, 2-5) 78-33 Tuesday, January 31 in Tomah. The Hilltoppers had three double-digit scorers: Evan Anderson with 25 points, Adam Skifton with 15 points and Isaac Skemp with 13 points. Tomah was led by Tom Hesse and Tyler Kleifgen with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Timberwolves host Holmen (8-8, 3-4) in Tomah and Sparta (3-14, 0-6) hits the road to face the Hilltoppers in Onalaska Friday, February 3 at 7:15 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LA CROSSE LOGAN 59, SPARTA 45

La Crosse Logan (8-10 overall, 4-3 Mississippi Valley) dished out a fourth straight loss to Sparta (4-15, 0-8) in a 59-45 Rangers win Tuesday, January 24 in La Crosse. Leading the Spartans were Evelyn Tripp with 13 points and Abby Schell with 12 points. Logan scoring leaders were Aaliyah Hamilton with 22 points, Jazzy Davis with 15 points and Ada Thurman with 11 points.

SPARTA 55, BLACK RIVER FALLS 26

The Spartans ended a four-game skid by taming the Black River Falls Tigers (1-15) 55-26 Tuesday, January 31 in Black River Falls. For Sparta, Tripp scored 16 points, Schell had 11 points and six rebounds and Josie Edwards added nine points and six rebounds. Black River Falls was led by Bella Falcon with eight points.

TOMAH 52, ADAMS-FRIENDSHIP 36

The Timberwolves (7-12 overall, 1-7 Mississippi Valley) earned themselves a non-conference win by beating Adams-Friendship (6-13) 52-36 Monday, January 23 in Tomah. Leading scorers in the victory were Aubrey King with 16 points and Lauren Noth with 10 points.

WEST SALEM 59, TOMAH 32

West Salem (18-2) denied Tomah a second straight win by beating the Timberwolves 59-32 Thursday, January 26 in Tomah. Megan Johnson scored 16 points and Anna McConkey added 13 points for the Panthers, while Noth and Brin Neumann tallied 11 and eight points, respectively, for Tomah.

LA CROSSE CENTRAL 53, TOMAH 32

The Timberwolves wrapped up a three-game homestand with a 53-32 loss to La Crosse Central (8-12, 5-4) Friday, January 27 in Tomah. Noth and Katie Carlson each scored nine points for Tomah. Alahnna Simpson posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Brittney Mislivecek added 15 points for the RiverHawks.

OSSEO-FAIRCHILD 57, TOMAH 48

The Timberwolves led 25-23 at halftime but ultimately couldn’t maintain that level in a 57-48 loss to Osseo-Fairchild (11-7) Monday, December 30 in Osseo. Noth tallied 12 points and King tacked on 10 points in the non-conference defeat.

BANGOR 54, MELROSE-MINDORO 48

Bangor (15-5 overall, 10-1 Scenic Bluffs) went on the road and came home with a 54-48 win over Melrose-Mindoro (9-11) Monday, January 30 in Melrose. The Cardinals were led by Anna Fronk with 18 points, Nora Tucker with 16 points and Gabby Schroeder with nine points. For the Mustangs, Lilly Radcliffe and Jillian Streetman scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.

BANGOR 49, NEW LISBON 35

Bangor kept pace with Royall atop the Scenic Bluffs standings by beating the New Lisbon Rockets (5-15, 1-10) 49-35 and improving to 10-1 in league play Tuesday, January 31 in New Lisbon.

CASHTON 64, LA FARGE 52

Cashton (12-9 overall, 6-5 Scenic Bluffs) nabbed a road non-conference victory by beating La Farge/Youth Initiative (10-7) 64-52 Monday, January 30 in La Farge. Cashton’s Taylor Lindley-Schendel and Braylee Hyatt scored 22 and 16 points, respectively, in the win.

HILLSBORO 46, CASHTON 29

The Eagles fell prey to a 46-29 conference loss at the hands of the Hillsboro Tigers (16-4, 8-3) Tuesday, January 31 in Hillsboro. Hyatt finished with 12 points for Cashton. The Tigers were led by the trio of Violet Morren with 16 points, Camryn Hanson with 12 points and Lily von Falkenstein with 10 points.

To end this week, Tomah has two road games with 7:15 p.m. tips: at Holmen (12-8, 6-3) Thursday, February 2 and at Arcadia (5-13) Friday, February 3. Sparta plays at Onalaska (8-9, 5-4) Friday evening at 5:45 p.m.

The Scenic Bluffs action Friday night starting at 7 p.m. features Brookwood at Wonewoc-Center (10-8, 5-6), New Lisbon at Cashton and Royall (16-2, 10-1) at Bangor.
