Bangor Fun Daze kicks off this Friday

The Bangor Lions is hosting its annual Fun Daze celebration August 13 through 15 with all the same beloved activities planned along with some new ones.

The weekend-long event kicks off on Friday, Aug. 13, when the food and beverage stands open in Bangor Village Park at 4 p.m. with a cornhole tournament starting at 6 p.m. as well as the men’s one pitch softball tournament and kid’s inflatables.

Registration for the Bangor Fun Daze Cornhole Tournament will begin at 5:30 p.m. and bags fly at 6 p.m. in the field behind the helicopter in the park. The competition will consist of two-person teams.

Jacked Up Band will provide a live performance from 7 to 11 p.m. and the Lion of the Year will be announced at 9 p.m.

 The fun continues Saturday with a day packed full of scheduled activities starting with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. The Fun Run/Walk 5K and 10K will begin at 8 a.m. and the euchre tournament starts at 11 a.m. 

Fun Run participants can pick up their packet Saturday morning from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at the Village Park shelter. Pancake breakfast and a t-shirt is included with the registration, which will be $25 per person or $60 for a family of four.

All proceeds from the Fun Run are used for Bangor community projects.

There will be a trophy for overall male and female winners in each race. Medals to male and female winners for each run in the following categories: 11 and under; 12-17; 18-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-and over as well as door prizes for walkers following the race.

The food and beverage vendors are also scheduled to open at 10 a.m. and stay open throughout the entire day. 

The Bangor Lions Canoe Run on the La Crosse River will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must provide their own canoe or other vessel as well as shuttling service; parking is available. 

Participants will paddle down the La Crosse River from Rockland to Bangor rain or shine. Registration forms can be found on bangorlions.com.  There will be a cash prize drawing at 7 p.m. at the Bangor Village Park. 

All registrations include hot dogs, chips and a chance to win the poker run contest. The winners will be announced by 7 p.m. at Village Park. Prizes for Best Poker Hands include the following:

  • $100 for best hand
  • $75 for second place
  • $50 third place
  • $25 for fourth place

Bingo at the Rod & Gun Club will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and Bangor's Got Talent is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The one pitch softball tournament will continue Saturday and kids’ inflatables will be open most of the day.

From 7 to 11 p.m., attendees will be treated to live music from K Sterling and the 85 Silver Band.

Fun Daze begins to wrap up the weekend with a car show on Sunday at 10 a.m., a craft and vendor show at 10 a.m. parade at 12 p.m., the continuation of the men’s softball tournament, duck races at 1 p.m., bingo from 2 to 5 p.m. and kids’ games such as tractor pulling and a money hunt starting at 3 p.m.

 The parade route will start at the elementary school on 14th Street and will turn right onto Cardinal Street, then left on 12th Street and take another left onto Bangor Street. The parade will then go down to 16th Street and take a left where it will proceed in front of the parade announcer, who will be in the Village Inn parking lot. 

The route will then take a left at James Street and turn right on 14th Street where the parade will end.

The Little Miss Bangor Dance will begin at 4 p.m. and raffle winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Again, this year, the Bangor Lions want to help area students that need assistance with school supplies this upcoming year. A bus will be available during the Fun Daze Parade and in Bangor Village Park afterwards to collect any school supplies the public would like to donate.
