CASHTON- Arnold L. VonRuden, 84, of Cashton, WI, affectionately known as Arnie to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Born on September 20, 1940, to Alfred and Adeline (Chapiewsky) Von Ruden, on the family farm in Pine Hollow, He was a man whose love story could rival any fairytale, having danced into the heart of his beloved wife, Joan Seitz, while on leave from the US Air Force. Their whirlwind romance blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 60 years, a testament to their unwavering devotion to each other.

Arnie’s life was one of service and dedication. After completing his education at Pine Hollow grade school and graduating from Cashton High School, he honorably served his country for four years in the Air Force. Upon returning home, he not only found his life partner but together they began farming in Portland Township. Alongside Joan, he raised their three children, Sue, Kevin “Red”, and Lori, who all shared the responsibilities and joys of farm life.

He and Joan sold their cows in 1988 and decided to join the Ice Show, an entertainment company, where they traveled the world for three years. Their charm and affection for each other earned them the endearing title of “cutest couple.”

“If Dad can’t fix it, then nobody can,” was the opinion around the family, because he was a jack-of-all trades. Arnie’s talents as a carpenter were well known, and his ability to create anything with his hands brought beauty and function to all who were lucky enough to receive something he built.

One of Arnie’s most cherished interests was the time he spent with Joan. They were inseparable, always seen holding hands. Arnie and Joan’s distaste for the car console that kept them apart in the front seat became a humorous story among family and friends.  Arnie’s love extended beyond Joan to his children and grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye. He took great pride in their accomplishments and was a constant source of support and encouragement. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness is one that will live on through them.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Sue (Phil) Flock, Kevin “Red” (Shellie) Von Ruden, and Lori Von Ruden; sister, Marllyn Schmitz; five grandchildren, Brett (Hayley Bemis) Von Ruden and kids, Laylin and Beau, Kayla Von Ruden, Derek (Whitney) Von Ruden, Noah Flock, and Dominic (Brittany Hanson) Flock and kids, Braelyn and Sadie; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
