Andrew “Andy” Lee Berendes, age 55, of Sparta, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026. Andy was born on December 30, 1970, in Sparta to Steve and Bernadette Berendes. He was a 1989 graduate of Sparta High School.
Andy had a deep appreciation for the open road and trails, whether he was behind the wheel driving truck or riding his motorcycle or beloved Polaris snowmobiles.
He found great joy in the outdoors and in his free time enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and golfing. On summer evenings he could often be found at the Melvina or Sparta softball fields. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed action and western movies. Above all, Andy cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Andy is survived by his children, Tia (Ruben), Colten, Brady, and Dalton; grandchildren, Nele, Blakley, Bjorn, Ryan; parents, Steve and Berny Berendes; siblings, Marcy Berendes, Ben (Ashley) Berendes, and Bud (Jen) Berendes, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, 5:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Sparta. Father Eric Berns will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Summit Ridge. The Torkelson Funeral Home in Sparta is assisting the family with arrangements.
