Washington, D.C. Safety patrol trip

Posted

Lots of changes took place when the Sparta Montessori E2 4th, 5th, and 6th graders moved from Meadowview Intermediate School to their new location, which was Lawrence Lawson and is now Sparta Montessori. The Montessori students are in one building, Pre-K through 6th grade.

The Montessori 5th graders participated in the Meadowview Safety Patrol program when they were housed there. The experience for the students who participated was very rewarding and a great learning experience. Offering the same opportunities to the Montessori students as what the rest of the students their age get is very important.

Sparta Montessori’s first Safety Patrol group started January 4, 2022. There are two E2 classrooms. The program uses 5th and 6th graders because there are fewer 5th and 6th grade students than at Meadowview. All 5th and 6th graders can choose to participate. A Patrolers’ duty includes helping the staff at recess monitor the students on the playground to keep everyone safe. The Children’s House and E1 classrooms are very grateful for the extra help the Safety Patrol gives them.

All Safety Patrol participants have the opportunity to go on the trip to Washington D.C. with the rest of the Monroe County Safety Patrol students. This year's trip was April 21-25. The Montessori PTO offered a scholarship to a safety patrol student going to Washington D.C. Students applying for the scholarship wrote a report on the 3 branches of our government. This year’s recipient, chosen by the PTO, is Lilly Hackbarth.

Ms. Loback and Ms. Carlson are the advisors for the program. The Safety Patrol program is a great addition to the Montessori experience, developing students into safety and service leaders in our school community.
