Tornado rages through eastern Monroe County Wednesday

Posted

Shortly after 4pm on Wednesday June 15th, a tornado was reported east of Tomah, Wisconsin.

The Tornado appears to have traveled north east from Hwy 131 and County Hwy A for about 15 miles before leaving Monroe County north of Shennigton. The tornado took down multiple trees, powerlines, and barns.   There is wide spread power outage and damage to a number of homes as well. Multiple semis were blown over onto their sides causing I-90 to be shut down for more than 3 hours.

Miraculously, no deaths or major injuries have been reported.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office asks that people avoid the area as many roads remain impassible and crews are out working diligently to get them back open.

Further information will be provided in the coming days as the Sheriff’s Office continue to assess the impact and damage caused by this event.

According to Monroe County Emergency Management Coordinator, Jared Tessman, “the national weather service is coming out today to finalize the details of what size tornado it was and top wind speeds and so on.” The Monroe County Emergency Management team set up a base at the Oakdale Fire Station.
