A social media post regarding an alleged threat and photo connected to the Tomah School District was determined not to be credible.

District superintendent Dr. Mike Hanson said administration learned of a “concerning picture and caption” posted on social media Tuesday afternoon.

In an email Hanson wrote, “the facts of the situation regarding the picture and the alleged threat of its caption were investigated by Tomah Police Department and Tomah High School administration. It was determined there was no credible threat of harm to students or staff. Tomah Area School District administration takes every report seriously. Thorough investigation of incidents are promptly conducted with the Tomah Police Department. The safety and security of our students and faculty is a top priority. Tomah Area School District has threat assessment and response protocols in place to address incidents in cooperation with local law enforcement and emergency responders.”

Tomah police provided the following details on its Facebook page:

“The Tomah Police Department responded to the Tomah High School for a report of a concerning social media post being circulated. School administration and police met with several students who had direct information related to this social media post. The picture in the post being circulated was not created by the individual in the photo. Someone took a screenshot of this student and added the concerning caption. This entire matter has been investigated and all parties involved have admitted to their respective involvement. There was no credible threat associated with this incident. Per Hanson, the incident has been investigated. What we have learned from this investigation is that there is no ongoing or continuing threat to the community. The school district will continue investigating this matter and will take whatever disciplinary actions that are deemed appropriate.”
