Sunshine on the Trail kicks off Oct. 9

Posted

After going curbside last year, Bangor’s cancer support group, Sunshine on the Trail, will host its 14th annual fundraiser on Saturday, October 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bangor Village Park.

Sunshine on the Trail is dedicated to the emotional and financial assistance of cancer patients living or working in the Bangor community. Currently, 25 area families have a member who is facing the trials of a cancer diagnosis.

To support these individuals, organizers have planned several fundraising activities that will take place at the main shelter in the Village Park.

Lunch options will include grilled ribeye sandwiches, pork chop sandwiches, and brats. All items will be available for dine in or drive up and carry out options.

There will be a basket raffle with a variety of choices and the ever-popular money tree, which is a $125 cash value.

New this year will be Cups for a Cause, which are heavy pottery mugs filled with a variety of treats. The theme-based cups will be offered as silent auction items.

Another silent auction item is a beautiful Bangor Cardinal quilt crafted by Carolyn Gerke Wilde and Mary Jo Feller.  Participants will also have the opportunity to win prizes on 100 square boards at $5 a square.

Bangor resident, Brian Youngs, is again crafting a wooden treasure for one of the boards; a two-seat bench complete with cup holders.

The other boards will feature Bangor community gift cards for groceries, dining, hair care, car care and other local services, with the final board highlighting a Scorezit, which is a game scorekeeper made by Wehrs Machine, and a cornhole toss set.

Registration for the event is $25, which includes a free t-shirt. Shirts are only available on a first come, first served basis as supplies are limited.

In memory of and in honor of cutouts will be available for $2 each and will be displayed the day of the event. Both registration and “Sunshines” can be secured prior to the event by contacting Joanne Mashak at (608) 486-2635 or at the park on Oct. 9.

Area vendors will also be in attendance displaying and selling their specialty items.

Event updates will be posted on the Sunshine on the Trail Facebook page.
