First 2022 Downtown Thursday Night draws crowd to Tomah

Posted

There was plenty of music, munchies and much more during a sunny evening at Tomah's first Downtown Thursday Night (DTN) event of this summer.

DTN is hosted by the Tomah Chamber and Visitors Bureau with First Bank as a major sponsor.

Community members and visitors of all ages could enjoy Ivory, the band on the main stage, and dozens of games, such as a mini putting green, plunkett and beanbag tosses sponsored by area businesses and organizations.

Food vendors like BP Smokehouse, The Loaded Bun, The Carlton, Murray's on Main, Tomah First United Methodist Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran of Tomah and TACU Credit Union provided tasty treats up and down the streets.

Two giant bounce houses highlighted the Kids Fun Zone area sponsored by the Walmart Distribution Center.

Children received face painting by Tappy and free balloon animals from Balloons by Kevin.

Kids of all ages could receive a free caricature drawing by Jason Gerke.

"This is my third year at the event," Gerke said. "I've been there since the beginning."

He said it takes him approximately three-to-five minutes  to draw a person. "Depends how chatty we are," he said. Thursday night, he was busy drawing Pam Janusheske and Jerry Robson.

"He's been at my daughters' weddings and a 16th birthday party," Janusheske said. "

"They're regulars," Gerke said.

Downtown Thursday nights will continue throughout the summer into mid August. Musical acts include:

July 7-Hillbilly Rockstarz

July 14-Super Tuesday

July 21-Soca Jukebox

Aug.4-Nathan Dean and the Damn Band

Aug.11-Cherry Pie
