Posted

The Sparta Police Department recently released information pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 310.46, which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release when in the discretion of the agency the release of the information will enhance public safety awareness and protection.

Cole T. Williams, 24, was convicted in Monroe County Circuit Court of sexually motivated crimes against juvenile females in 2018 and was sentenced to serve two years in a state prison on November 6, 2019.

Williams is scheduled to be released from incarceration by October 19 and will be living at 1000 Central Ave in Sparta. He will be under supervision through the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections on 24-hour GPS monitoring with restricted zones.

The press release issued by Chief of Police Emilee Nottestad read, “This notice is not intended to increase fear, rather it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public. Sex offenders have always lived within our communities, but it was not until Wisconsin’s Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Laws were enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community.”
