TOMAH- Rafael Rodriguez, age 80, of Tomah, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Born on September 6, 1944, Rafael’s life was one marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the simple pleasures in life.
Rafael’s early years centered around service as he proudly served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1992. His dedication to his country was a testament to his courageous spirit. Afterwards, he dedicated his life to the fine art of car mechanics at Vandermeer car dealership and E.C.S. at Fort McCoy. Rafael’s meticulous attention to detail when working on cars was not just a skill but a reflection of the love he had for his craft.
Rafael was united in marriage to his first love, Lynda Rice, and together they journeyed through life for 13 years before parting ways in 1980. His heart found love again when he united in marriage to Janelle Faulkner on February 18, 2017. Together, they loved having adventures together, creating long lasting memories.
Beyond his family and work, Rafael enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, expressing his fondness for playing Bingo, cards, fishing, hunting, and immersing himself in the stories of old westerns. Rafael was an incredibly hardworking man whose kind demeanor and selflessness left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Rafael’s world was his family, who meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Janelle; his daughters, Rosie (Keith) Alvae, Renea Brown, and Rikie Rodriguez; his stepsons, Kyle (Mariah) Faulkner and Kevin Faulkner; his adored grandchildren, Corbin, Adam (Rachel), Asha (Dylan), Mackenzie, Molly (Zakk), Nate, and Jalen, and his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Stella, Hazel, Brodie, Zane, and Sophie. He is further survived by his siblings, Rene Rodriguez, Rose Seal, and Richard Rodriguez.
Rafael was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lynda; and his brothers, Old Ray, Ray, and Danny.
Funeral Services with full military honors will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Father Ethan Hokamp will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. The Torkelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
