The Tomah high school football team dropped its second game in a row Friday in a 12- 7 loss to visiting Prairie Du Chien.

The only points for Tomah came on the opening drive on a 17- yard run by Jacob Bullard. After that, the game was all Prairie Du Chien.

The Blackhawks went on to score on a two-yard run by Maddox Cejka in the second quarter to tie the game at 7. The score would remain tied as both teams went into the locker room for halftime.

The game resumed despite some flashes of lightning in the distance. Prairie Du Chien was able to take the lead early in the second half with a 32- yard field goal by Joey Xiya to cap the first drive of the third quarter.

The nail in the coffin came in the fourth quarter when Prairie Du Chien’s defense - and Tomah penalties - backed up the Timberwolves towards their own endzone. Quaterback Tom Hesse was caught by the PdC defenders in the endzone for a safety.

Prairie Du Chein’s offense was carried by Rhett Koenig with 174 rushing yards on 31 carries.

In the second half, Tomah was held to -2 yards of offense. Tomah’s Quarterback Tom Hesse was 6 of 16 in pass attempts for 30 yards. Eli Brown was the leading receiver with 5 receptions and 29 yards in the first half.

Neither team was able to complete a pass in the second half. Tomah’s top receiver Drew Brookman was held without a catch-all game after recording 164 receiving yards last week. On the ground, Jacob Bullard led the way with 66 rushing yards. Tanner Mathias ran for 40 yards on 7 attempts.

Defensively, Jackson Steffel finished with the team’s only sack of PdC quarterback, Maddox Cejka.

This is Tomah’s second-straight loss on the year while Prairie Du Chien will improve to 1-1 on the year. Next week Tomah looks to get back on track when they face off against River Falls (0-2) next week.
